Passport Information

 

When applying for a passport, please allow 30 minutes per person.

 

Northfield Satellite Office Hours

The Northfield Satellite Office is available for passport processing on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 8:00 - 10:30 a.m., at the Northfield City Hall, 801 Washington Street.  Appointments can be scheduled between 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. by calling the Recorder's Office at 507-332-6114 or 507-645-9576.

Faribault Office Hours

The Recorder's Office is available for passport processing Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., at the Government Services Building, 320 N.W. Third Street.

Passport Application and Processing Times:

Application forms, fees, processing times and updated information on applying for a Passport and Passport Card are also available on the U.S. Department of State website at: http://travel.state.gov

The best advice on when to apply for a U.S. Passport is...APPLY EARLY!

You may check the status of your application online at http://www.travel.state.gov, which is currently taking 5-7 days. It may take less time if you paid for expedite service and sent your application via overnight delivery.

If you are able to renew your passport by mail and need expedite service, then you must mark 'Expedite" on the mailing envelope.


Passport Requirements:

 

United States Passport Book (Valid for travel by air, sea or land)

  1. Completed passport application form (you MUST sign in person) - obtained from the County Recorder's Office or the following Passport Agency's website http://travel.state.gov/passport and click on "Application for Passport".
  2. A Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate from the County or State level (Not a Hospital Certificate).
  3. NOTE: If you were born in Rice County and have a hand-signed birth certificate, you have two options - 1) You may purchase a computer generated birth certificate that is printed on security paper at a cost of $16; or 2) You may use your hand-signed certified copy at a neighboring county to apply for your passport.

  4. Two identical passport photographs taken here for $10. Must meet Federal passport requirements.
  5. Valid Driver's License for identification.
    Minors under 16 MUST appear with BOTH parents and both must have a valid Driver's License.
    Minors 16 thru 17, if they have a driver's license, may appear without a parent, but must have a parents check to show consent. (Minors 16 and over would be the only ones with valid Driver's License). If minor has no I.D., a parent will have to appear with the minor.
  6. Photocopy of I.D. presented at time of applying.
  7. Photocopy must be on plain white, 8 1/2 x 11" standard paper stock, showing the front and the back of your I.D. Photocopy must contain images on only one-side of each page submitted.
  8. Fees:
    Adult: (16 & over)
    $75.00 check to US Dept of State
    $25.00 cash or check to Rice County Recorder
    Under 16:
    $60.00 check to US Dept of State
    $25.00 cash or check to Rice County Recorder
  9. If leaving in less than 6 weeks, you may expedite the application by paying a $60.00 expedite fee per passport. The fee is in addition to the cost of the passport and there may also be express mail fees.
  10. For children under 16, BOTH parents are required to sign the application.

If your passport was issued in the last 15 years but has now expired, please call our office for additional instructions.

NEVER DESTROY OR MUTILATE A FEDERAL PASSPORT, IT IS FEDERAL PROOF THAT YOU ARE A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES.
