Mental Health Advisory Council
The Comprehensive Mental Health Act of 1987 mandated the establishment of Mental Health Local Advisory Councils in every Minnesota county. Local Advisory Council membership gives voice to individuals who know firsthand the strengths and weaknesses of the mental health system including adults who receive mental health services, those who received services as children, and family members.
The purpose of the Local Advisory Council (LAC) is to use the knowledge and experience of a broad range of stakeholders to find ways to improve local mental health services. The LAC provides the Rice County Board of Commissioners with an annual report of unmet mental health needs to be included in the county's mental health plan, and advises the County Board regarding needed mental health services.
For membership applications or further information, please call Christine Kern at 507-332-6227.
The Rice County Mental Health Local Advisory Council meets the fourth Wednesday of January, February, March, April, May, September and October at Friendship House, 212B Central Avenue in Faribault from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Interested consumers and community professionals are welcome to attend our meetings.
