Mental Health Advisory Council
Background
The Comprehensive Mental Health Act of 1987 mandated the establishment of Mental Health Local Advisory Councils at the county level. Local Advisory Council membership gives voice to individuals who know firsthand the strengths and weaknesses of the mental health system including adults who receive mental health services, those who received services as children, and family members.
Purpose
The Local Advisory Council is involved in the development of the Biennial Community Social Services Plan for Rice County, provides the Rice County Board of Commissioners with a report of unmet mental health needs, and makes recommendations to the County Board regarding needed mental health services.
