As you begin your spring clean-up, the Rice County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public to be cautious. Especially in cleaning ditches and along roadways such as the Adopt-a-Highway Program, use caution if you see plastic beverage bottles with cloudy or abnormal contents inside. Some people use these bottles to make methamphetamine in a process called the “Shake and Bake” method. If they are capped, do not open them. Popping a cap on one of these bottles can expose these chemicals to oxygen, which could cause an explosion. This could then result in significant injuries or even death. If they look suspicious, leave them and contact your local law enforcement. We have had no reports of such findings, but we want people to be alert for these items.
