Internship opportunities are available for current law students, college students, or technical college students. To provide for meaningful work responsibilities, only one internship from each category will be available and is generally limited to one quarter/semester per student during the school year. Term 1 summer internships are available from June 1 - July 15 and Term 2 summer internships are available from July 15 - August 31.

Interns are expected to work at least 2 days a week during the internship period. Assignments given to interns will vary depending on education level, interest, expertise and work available in the office. All interns are subject to Rice County policies and procedures.

Application Procedures

Candidates must complete the Application Form (PDF), Volunteer Student Agreement (PDF) and Background Study Consent Form (PDF). These forms should be emailed, along with a letter of interest, at least 90 days before the internship term to the County Attorney John Fossum. Internships for law students should also include a writing sample.

Paid Internships for Certified Student Attorneys

Paid internships may be available for law students who are Certified Student Attorneys, eligible for work study funding, and attending an ABA accredited law school. In addition to the Application Form, Background Study Consent Form, letter of interest, and writing sample, please include a transcript and resume as well.  This information should also be submitted to County Attorney John Fossum.

Unpaid Internships

The Rice County Attorney's Office offers unpaid internships designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the criminal justice system and the practice of law within a local prosecutor's office.
